( The brief & the build )

A documentary following how engazaat combines smart water technology, agricultural knowledge and local partnerships to help farms grow more efficiently in Dakhla Oasis.

The engazaat Dakhla Smart Agriculture Documentary follows the people and technology shaping agriculture in Egypt's Dakhla Oasis. Through field filming, farmer interviews, smart irrigation infrastructure and leadership perspectives, Global Untold Story explores the relationship between water management, local knowledge and sustainable rural development.

Dakhla Oasis is a place where agriculture depends on more than fertile land.
Water must be managed carefully. Technology must respond to the realities of the
desert. Farmers need practical systems they can understand, trust and operate
over time.
engazaat commissioned Global Untold Story to create a documentary about its
work in the region and the people helping transform that vision into something real.
The production followed the project from the agricultural fields of Dakhla to the
company’s leadership offices, bringing together smart infrastructure, farmers,
technical teams and government perspectives within one connected story.
It was not simply a film about irrigation.
It was a story about what becomes possible when technology, knowledge and
local experience move together.

THE BRIEF
The documentary needed to explain how engazaat was using technology and
infrastructure to support more efficient agricultural production while helping
farmers improve the way they manage land, water and crops.
The film also needed to reveal the wider relationships behind the project.
Farmers were not presented only as beneficiaries. They were active participants
learning, adapting and applying new systems.
The company’s leadership provided the strategic perspective behind the work.
The Governor of New Valley added the government viewpoint, discussing the
importance of serious investment and responsible private sector participation in
regions such as Dakhla.
Our task was to connect these perspectives without turning the film into a
technical presentation.
The audience needed to understand the system, but it also needed to understand
the people whose lives and work were connected to it.

FILMING IN THE FIELDS
Field production took place across farms and agricultural locations in Dakhla
Oasis.
We filmed farmers working with the land, irrigation systems operating across large
areas and crops growing under demanding environmental conditions.

The visual coverage included:
Farmers working in the fields
Smart irrigation infrastructure
Water movement and distribution
Agricultural machinery
Fruits and vegetables
Technical teams
Wide views of the desert landscape
Drone footage showing the scale of the farms
Detail shots revealing how the systems operate
Interviews with farmers and local stakeholders
The aerial footage was particularly important.
From the ground, the audience could understand the human experience.
From above, it could understand the scale of the transformation.

TECHNOLOGY FARMERS CAN USE
The strongest agricultural technology has little value if it cannot work under real
conditions.
The documentary focused not only on the systems engazaat introduced, but also
on how farmers understood and interacted with them.
We filmed the learning process, the exchange of knowledge and the practical
relationship between technical expertise and local farming experience.
This gave the film a human center.
The technology was not presented as something arriving from outside to replace
the farmer.
It was presented as a tool that could strengthen the farmer’s ability to make better
decisions, improve efficiency and protect valuable resources.

FROM INFRASTRUCTURE TO BETTER PRODUCE
The story connected the systems beneath the ground with the results growing
above it.
Water management, energy, irrigation and technical support were reflected through
the condition of the fields, the quality of the crops and the experiences of the
people working there.
Rather than presenting infrastructure as an abstract technical achievement, the
documentary showed how each element contributed to the wider agricultural
process.

The film connected every visible result to a practical system and a human
outcome.

LEADERSHIP, GOVERNMENT AND LOCAL PARTNERSHIP
The agricultural work in Dakhla does not exist in isolation.
Projects of this scale depend on coordination between private investment, local
knowledge, technical expertise and government support.
Interviews with engazaat’s leadership explained the strategy, ambition and long
term thinking behind the project.
The Governor of New Valley provided the wider regional perspective, addressing
the importance of responsible development and productive investment in remote
communities.

Farmers and technical teams grounded those larger ambitions in everyday reality.
Together, these voices allowed the film to move between strategy and
implementation without losing its focus on the people closest to the land.

OUR APPROACH
The documentary needed to communicate complex infrastructure without
becoming overly technical or promotional.
We built the narrative around three connected layers:
The system being introduced
The people operating and benefiting from it
The wider ambition for agricultural development in Dakhla
The interviews provided context and credibility.
The field footage showed the systems in operation.
The aerial cinematography revealed the scale of the project and the relationship
between cultivated land and the surrounding desert.
Every creative decision was designed to make the subject clear while preserving
the authenticity of the location and the people involved.
PRODUCTION SCOPE
The project required a coordinated production across remote agricultural locations
and formal leadership environments.

Our scope included:
Documentary research and story development
Script and interview structure
Production planning

Regional travel and logistics
Field production in Dakhla Oasis
Farmer and stakeholder interviews
Executive interviews
Government interview production
Agricultural and infrastructure cinematography
Drone filming
Data management
Editing and narrative shaping
Color grading
Sound design and mixing
Motion graphics and titles
Final mastering and delivery
The production structure was designed to move efficiently between farms,
technical systems, local contributors and leadership interviews while maintaining
one consistent visual language.

THE RESULT
The final documentary presented smart agriculture as more than a collection of
technologies.
It showed a connected system built around water, land, infrastructure, knowledge
and people.
The film gave engazaat a clear way to communicate the project to stakeholders,
partners and wider audiences while maintaining a strong human perspective.
It documented the ambition behind the work, the reality of implementation and the
people helping agriculture grow under some of Egypt’s most demanding
environmental conditions.
